Throughout the month of December, I’ll be writing a post a day for the fabulous project Reverb 12.  It’s an opportunity to reflect on the year that’s wrapping up and using the fruits of that reflection to shape the year ahead – in other words, exactly the kind of thing I love to think about!  So, without further ado, here’s today’s prompt.

Place: What places anchored you this year? Or were you in search of new places and spaces to call your own and call home? Describe the place you love and why it means so much to you.

When I was young, I read a lot of books.  I always imagined the books being set in my grandparents’ house, and in fact, I still pretty much do.  Many of my dreams take place there, too, come to think of it.  I’ve lived in a lot of places that have been lovely – the one with the backyard pool and nopalitos growing in the yard springs immediately to mind – but only in the past year have I lived somewhere else that feels like a contender for “Home.”

Why is it so perfect?  Partly because we own it.  Partly because it has an amazing and ENORMOUS yard, where Simone can run like a wild creature and I can grow things.  (finally!) Partly because of the fireplace, which turns out to be a major draw for me. Partly because I have an office, which has turned out to be a great, cozy place to read and work.  Mostly, though, because it has space for everyone to have their own private nook. Living in a family of introverts necessitates a lot of large, separate rooms.

How about you?  What makes a place “Home?”
